Stormwater management by integrating biodiversity on an industrial landfill site

2 February 2021

Managing runoff water from an industrial site while implementing a biodiversity management plan can result in complex issues. As part of the studies carried out on behalf of PRAYON for its landfill site in Engis (Belgium), NATUREM SOLUTIONS turned this challenge into an opportunity thanks to nature-based solutions and their multiple benefits. After an hydrological modelling stage, various options for water management during storm events were studied. These include the construction of intermittent and permanent wetlands and ponds, as well as hedges planting and natural barriers setup that also filter and treat water: three functions in one solution (flow control, treatment and biodiversity) !
