FILTRAN® combined vegetated filters

30 October 2018

Developed by Cebedeau (www.cebedeau.be), the FILTRAN® process is a compact vegetated filter for the treatment of organic matter and optimised for the treatment of total nitrogen through nitrification and denitrification. The process combines in one step the advantages of unsaturated vertical filters and saturated horizontal filters.

Its additional advantages are:

  • A smaller footprint than conventional vegetated filters, ie 1.2 m²/PE for the treatment of carbon only and 2 m²/PE for total nitrogen treatment;
  • Just one treatment step (usually two steps are required for partial treatment of nitrogen using the other types of filters);
  • No pumping for treated water recirculation, often required for partial treatment of nitrogen using the other types of filters.

FILTRAN® highlights in comparison to other vegetated filters are an increased control of total nitrogen treatment and a low footprint, specificities that are scarcely met on the market. It is applicable to domestic wastewater treatment for small municipalities or communities, but also to industrial wastewater (agri-food, etc.).

Cebedeau and Naturem Solutions have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly promote and market the FILTRAN® process.
